Venkatraman “Venki” Ramakrishnan was 19 years old when he left his home in Baroda, India to join the Ohio University community in 1971. A first-year graduate student in physics, he had never dreamed that he would one day earn the Nobel Prize in 化学 for his work on the structure of ribosomes.

Our faculty are a key part of Ohio University’s R1 Carnegie Classification, educating the next generation of Ph.D. candidates in esteemed 项目 in Biology, 化学, 英语, 历史, 数学, Molecular and Cellular Biology, 物理, Plant Biology, and Psychology.

Among the college's research facilities and equipment are a Tandem van de Graff nuclear accelerator, a helium low-temperature laboratory, multiple electron microscopes, a mammalian recombinant genetics laboratory, a nuclear magnetic resonator, several chemical spectrometers, a photomicroscopy laboratory, and a herbarium with more than 4,500 species.
